The company manages forestry activities in a forest area of almost 20,000 ha. From the hunter's perspective, about a half of the above-mentioned forest area is open to various hunting communities. The other half of the forest is available for hunting activities of Mestské lesy Košice a.s. The company hunts in two hunting grounds. The priority of such hunting is fee-based culling.

The ČERMEĽ hunting ground covers 4,178 ha and is located in the roe deer breeding area (SXI– Prešovská), with an optimum number of roe deer in addition to red deer and boars.
The ZÁLOM hunting ground covers 5,882 ha and is located in the red deer breeding area (JXVI– Smolník), with an optimum number of red deer in addition to boars, roe deer, and predatory animals (wolf, lynx, bear) in the area of their natural occurrence.

The history of Košice has been closely linked tothe extensive forests around it. The oldest references to the ownership of forest lands around the city date from the 13th century. For many years the economic use of these forests was connected with mining and metallurgy, practiced in the region of Košice. Košice's forest lands became the largest piece of city property in the Hungarian Kingdom. With its area of 19,432 ha, it is currently the second largest piece of forest property in Central Europe.
